An Interview and Giveaway with Katie Crawford!

Katie Crawford is an artist, illustrator, and graphic designer from Pittsburgh, PA. She loves all things fluffy, feathered, scaly, and fabulous.

1. What inspires you to come up with new designs?

Everything! My constant inspirations are nature/animals, fashion, and music. Lately, the style and feel of the 50s and 60s is a big influence on me, particularly things like comic books and movie posters from that era.



2. How long have you been creating?

I’ve been drawing and making art literally for as long as I can remember. I’ve been doing design work and digital illustration for almost 3 years and I’ve had my Etsy shop for a year and a half now.



3. Where do you do your work? Do you have a dedicated area of your home, or?

I have a section in the game room of my house dedicated to my work. I have a great, big, old-fashioned architect’s desk where I draw and paint and my computer, scanner, and printer are on a desk across from it.



4. Tell us about a goal you have for your business

It’s still a bit new for me, so for right now I just want it to keep growing and for more and more people to see my art. Someday, it would be great to quit my day job.



5. What is your favorite album?

I can’t pick just one! I’d say my top three are Too Fare to Care by Old 97’s, Summerteeth by Wilco and I and Love and You by the Avett Brothers.



6. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Still creating--hopefully on a larger scale with my work in more boutiques and galleries.



7. What is your favorite thing to do on a weekend?

I’m a big hockey fan, so I’m usually either watching or attending a Penguins game on the weekend. Also, because I do have a day job during the week, I use my time on the weekends to work on my art and come up with new designs for my shop.



8. Tell us about a new skill you'd like to learn

I’d like to learn some different forms of printing—screenprinting in particular.
